Adult Education

Evening Adult Education 2018

Sukkot Shalom is running a new and varied evening Adult education program. Each Tuesday evening the programme will run from 7:30-10 pm. and will consist of 2 sessions with a half hour break for refreshments and a chat.  The classes are open to anyone who wishes to attend and membership of Sukkot Shalom is not required.  Where outside instructors are used a fee for the classes will be charged.  The planned syllabus for the year includes the following topics.

January & February 
 This month starts on the 16th January with Jewish mysticism as the topic.  Rabbi Larry Tabic will be teaching the course in 2 sessions from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. with a break in between. 
Course dates will be Jan 16, 23, 30. Feb 13, 20, 27.  

 March – April  2018 A prism of proverbs

The course will look at a sample of the book of proverbs exploring the text in Hebrew (no prior Hebrew skills are required) and English and will further explore the proverbs from a Targumaic, Midrashic and ancient non-Jewish Middle Eastern context.

The group have begun  an exploration of Jewish texts as they relate to GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender) issues.

Tu B'Shevat Seder at SWESRS in Oaks Lane from 7.00pm 


New Book Group

Karen Watch & Rachel Savage of Sukkat Shalom Reform Synagogue

have started a new Book Club which will meet from time to time in the Cheder Block of the synagogue

The Book Club will now meet on a Thursday with the next meeting taking place on the 8th March at 8pm. 
Subsequent dates are :
29th March, 26th April, 31st May and 28th June.
The 1st book is How to stop time by Matt Haig. 
Book 2 is The far side of the sky by Daniel Kalla. 
The 3rd is Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman. 
If you have a book(s) in mind that you would like to suggest the group read bring a synopsis with you for us all to read and see what we think. 

Please join Rachel & Karen  for what is hoped to be a fun gathering of bookworms once a month.
